If you’re staying in or around Utrecht for longer, there are plenty of ways to enjoy our beautiful city.

You can explore Utrecht and the surrounding areas best either by bike or by boat. You can see the city from the water by boating around the 5.5km singel loop or enjoy the nature by travelling along the Kromme Rijn river towards Amelisweerd.

If you want to stay local and soak up our medieval city then you could check out the Dom Tower, either by climbing to the top or taking an underground tour. You could also visit the museum speelklock or waterlinie museum for something a little different.

Utrecht also has great transport links to other cities. Trains run frequently to Amsterdam with less than 30 minutes travel time, and you can be in Rotterdam, The Hague or Nijmegen in less than an hour. To visit popular museums and art galleries in Amsterdam, you often need to book a ticket in advance.

There are great options if you are travelling with children. There are many play parks and petting zoos in the Netherlands. You can use the search term ‘kinderboerderij’ for a petting zoo and ‘speeltuin’ for a play area and will find many options. There are also some interactive museums perfect for children such as the Nijntje Museum (Miffy) and Spoorwegmuseum (trains). For a bigger day out the Efteling theme park is about an hour’s drive from Utrecht.
